Pine Island District Fishing Derby

 All Cub Scouts welcome from any District

What is it?             The Pine Island District Fishing Derby is an annual event made possible by Fish Florida “Conservation through Education”. It is open to Cub Scouts and their siblings to learn skills like tying knots, casting, bait preparation, fish identification, proper fish release methods. First 125 Pre-registered on time Scouts and sibling will receive a FREE FISHING ROD WITH A TACKLE BOX and an event patch (Supplies Limited to 125 poles- after the first 125 Scouts register you will need to bring your own equipment and you will NOT receive a pole at the event).

 

Activities?             Fishing contest with prizes awarded for biggest fish caught by a Lion, Tiger, Wolf, Bear, WEBELOS and Sibling. Special recognition trophy for Most Fish Caught overall, Largest Fish Caught overall and the Smallest Catch overall. Be sure and bring your lucky tackle and bait! But some will be available for you. Bring your own snacks if needed. Water will be provided but bring a cup.

When & Where?   Saturday, September 22 from 8:00 am to 12 pm.  This event will be held at the Camp Elmore’s Aquatic Center, 3551 SW 142 Avenue, Davie, FL 33330.

  • 8 – 9 am – Check In and Walk-In Registration (Walk Ins must bring their own pole and fishing tackle)
  • 9-11:00 am – Fishing Derby
  • 11-12:00 am – Awards Ceremony

 

Supervision?         Each scout must be supervised by a parent or adult leader at all times.

Cost?              On time Fee is $ 10 per participant, and includes a fishing pole and patch until Sept 15, 2019.  

After Sept 15th,  late registration is $ 15 . Once the first 125 register — all further registrations are not guaranteed fishing rods or patches. All late online sales end at Noon on Friday, Sept 20, 2019. Walk Ins are available at the event for $ 15- no fishing poles are available for Walk ins and they must bring their own pole to fish.

Refunds?               Refunds are not available, but fees are transferable to another Scout or Adult at this event if is notified by Friday, Sept 20, 2019, Noon.

Insurance?            Liability, as well as Sickness and Accident Insurance is provided for all registered members and leaders of the South Florida Council.

What to Bring?     Depending on your needs bring: sunscreen, hat, sunglasses, water shoes, water bottle, towel, change of clothes, rain gear, insect repellent, a great attitude and a camera to record all the fun you will have!

 

Do Not Bring:       Some items are not needed and others would be inappropriate: electronics such as radios, TV’s, Gameboys, etc. No firearms, alcohol, tobacco (in any form) or pets of any kind.
