Welcome to Phoenix District’s
2020 Pinewood Derby
The Pinewood Derby, one of Cub Scouting’s most popular and successful family activities, is co-hosted this year by Troop 334 and Pack 425, and will be held at the Miami Springs Optimist Club on January 30, 2021.
Pinewood Derby cars (small wooden models that Cub Scouts make with help from their families) are powered by gravity and run down a track. Every Cub Scout has the opportunity to design and build their own “grand prix” car to enter in the race. Win or lose, participating Cub Scouts should take pride in having done their best, as well as learning craft skills, rules of fair play, and good sportsmanship – all things they will remember for life.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION
Race Date:
Saturday, January 30th, 2021 Doors open at 8:30am. 1st race starts at 9:00am, sharp

Miami Springs Optimist Club, 1101 Wren Avenue, Miami Springs FL 33166
Cost:
$11 per racer – Early registration (available through Nov 23rd)
$22 per racer – Regular registration (available between Nov 24th – Jan 25th)
Refunds not available. Substitute racer from same pack is allowed.
Registration:
All participants (including any siblings/adults racing) must preregister online. There is no on-site registration. (https://sfcbsa.org/events/ph-pinewood-derby-5/ )
Registration Deadline
Registration closes on Monday, Jan 25th at 11:55pm.
Cut Date:
Nov 21st – 10am-2pm – Grace Lutheran Church-Social Hall, 254 Curtis Pkwy (Pack 425 and Pack 529)
Car Turn In: TBA
Dec 1st (@Miami Springs Optimist Club) between 6:30pm and 8:30pm.
Cars not turned in/inspected will not race.
Awards:
Medals awarded to 1st, 2nd & 3rd place winners of each divisional race.
Trophies awarded to 1st, 2nd & 3rd place winners of the Overall District Champion race.
Additional awards for Craftsmanship and Originality
Audience:
All must adhere to Covid-19 requirements, including facemasks, social distancing, and temperature taking. Hand sanitizer will be provided. Families & siblings are welcome to attend; but children must be supervised by an adult. Childcare is not provided.
Come hungry! Light breakfast, lunch and snack items for sale throughout the day.
