Buccaneer Scouts BSA and Venturing Event

 

This events date was changed from Dec 2-4, 2022- to better accommodate our Scouting Units.

The new Date is January 13-15, 2023

 

Big Munson Island Adventure

  1. What: This event will be an out-island weekend event at Munson Island. Scouts and Scouters will arrive at Sawyer on Friday afternoon where they will stay the night in dorm housing. Saturday morning participants will load onto a pontoon boat. They will proceed to Munson and spend the next two days camping, working on advancement, conservation projects and cooking challenges.
  2. Activities: Activities will be completely decided on November 10th at an event planning meeting. As of now the list includes a cooking challenge, an island cleanup / various conservation efforts, a district wide challenge and skills instruction.
  3. When and Where: The event is from January 13th  opening at 4:30pm, to January 15th closing at 1 pm. As of now, Scouts will meet at BEC, depart to Munson and return boats and gear to Brinton.
  4. Supervision: There will be unit leaders with each group in attendance, FSB has offered staff to steer canoes and spend the night on island with the units. Kevin Creighton will be in attendance to oversee the event.
  5. Cost: Out island costs will start at $25 and go to $30 after early bird ends. Our budget is based off the same event from the previous year. Costs go towards dinner when scouts arrive, cracker barrel, program supplies, site rental and recognition.
  6. What to bring: Scouts should pack light enough to bring personal gear and supplies to the island by boat. The island will be stocked previously with tents, chuck boxes with stoves, pots, pans, utensils and propane.
  7. Registration: Early bird registration will be active up until 01/02/23. Early bird pricing for Munson will be $25 and will close on 01/02/23. Regular admission of $30 will start on 01/03/23 and close on 01/10/23.
  8. Food: : Pizza dinner will be provided the night Scouts arrive, for all remaining meals scouts should plan and prepare to bring their own rations.
