South Florida Council is one of 260 Scout councils in the United States. Our council annually serves more than 40,000 young people and supports more than 3,000 adult volunteers.

Our 3-county territory includes Broward, Miami-Dade, and Monroe.

Our territory is divided into districts/divisions to deliver Scouting in geographic as well as non-geographic communities. Each district is led by a team of volunteers with the help and encouragement of at least one full-time staff member (District Executive).

The team supports the community organizations (i.e., churches, service clubs, and veterans organizations) that charter Scouting groups. They also support volunteer leaders who work directly with youth members, and the unit volunteers who help administer the Pack, Troop, Crew, Ship, and Post program.

To prepare for 2020 and beyond, the Executive Board and District Chairs of council have adopted a district re-alignment to “re-balance” the districts. We are going from 9 districts to 6 districts on January 1, 2020. After the departure of a major chartering partner, many of the districts were averaging about 30-35 total Scout units. A typical district, and its accompanying structure is designed for at least 57 to 60 units. Restoring districts with more units will provide the needed resources for exciting and dynamic events, training, and gatherings. The district committee will have additional volunteers to aid with unit service as well.

It is IMPORTANT for all the districts to gather at least one more time in their current alignment and celebrate the great times and accomplishments. Celebrate your past district and thank all of the volunteers that made it possible!

Your district leadership will be working through a transition plan to bring the members of the new district family together. There will be opportunities to FILL the district committee, choose a new name, logo, and more.

Here is the list of the Units and the new district areas. This list also shows the current size of the district and the new proposed district. Other areas were considered, however the selected areas provided the best balance for the county.
